Success story
Automation and real-time visibility for Concentrados Coto Brus with atvise® SCADA developed by Controlsoft
Context
Concentrados Coto Brus, a Costa Rican producer of concentrated animal feed, was running its entire operation on manual processes, with data capture, production tracking, and inventory control depending on human effort at every step and no automation in place anywhere across the facility. Without real-time data, information about production status or inventory levels arrived too late to act on, and by the time an issue surfaced through manual reporting channels, the window for a timely correction had often already closed.
Moving from zero automation to a fully connected operation changes how a company thinks and reacts. For Concentrados Coto Brus, this was not just a technology upgrade: it was a fundamental change in how they run their business, and atvise® gave us the platform to make that visible in real time.

The challenge
With no prior automation experience, the company concluded that investing in it was no longer optional. These were the open fronts:
- No automation of any kind in place anywhere across the facility prior to the project.
- Data capture, production tracking, and inventory control fully dependent on manual effort.
- Delayed information meant the window for a timely correction had often already closed by the time an issue was reported.
- Competitive pressure from industry peers already operating at higher efficiency levels.

The results
Controlsoft built the supervisory layer of the project on atvise®, connected to the PLCs and controllers installed throughout the facility and consolidating data from across the site into a single, centralized supervision layer.
- Remote access to production information. Management can monitor operations from any location, regardless of where they are.
- Inventory and stock level control. Accurate, up-to-date data replaced guesswork and manual counts.
- Data-driven decision-making. Dashboards and reports turn raw operational data into actionable insight, for the first time in the company's history.
- Faster access to operating information. The team can identify issues and act on them immediately, instead of waiting for manual reports to surface.
Personnel adoption remains a challenge the company continues to work through: transitioning a workforce accustomed to manual routines to a technology-driven environment takes time.

Partner
Controlsoft is the Costa Rica-based system integrator responsible for the project, specializing in industrial automation platforms and software solutions, with expertise spanning the full technology stack: field instruments and hardware, PLCs and control systems, and supervisory software.
That breadth meant Concentrados Coto Brus could rely on a single provider for the entire integration rather than coordinating multiple vendors across different project layers. For a company with no prior automation experience, having one accountable partner for the full scope reduced complexity and risk considerably.
